1st Draft: Growing Gourmet

This is the first draft of the magazine, Growing Gourmet. I am looking forward to receiving feedback and revising the magazine. Next, I will conduct a peer review, this is how I will receive the feedback.

Production 6- Ingredient and Recipe Solution

Image
As I began to read through the answers I was given in the email I realized I would not be able to use the exact recipe or ingredients in the feature article. The recipe and specific ingredients would be the exact way the chef makes them. If these were put out it could have a negative impact on his sale of the dish. People would then be able to make them at home and no longer need to come to the restaurant to order them. After discussing this with my teacher I have decided I will use the information the chef has provided me and make it known some parts will remain secretive. I then had the idea to create a "Top Secret" stamp to have behind the parts of the recipe and ingredients I will disclose. I feel as though this will be a fun touch to the page. I may also state where readers can find the actual dish and mention the location of the chef's restaurant. I used Adobe's Illustrator to create the stamp. "Top Secret" is written in Calisto MT and I have applied ...

Production 5- Interview Answers

Last night, I emailed the chef again to follow up on conducting the interview. In this email I went ahead and attached the interview questions so he could look over them prior to the interview. However, I also stated if it was easier due to both he and I having busy schedules he could send me a voice recording or an email where he answers the questions. This morning I received an email back from him including the answers he provided. I can now write the feature article. I can schedule a time to go to the restaurant and take the photographs.

Production 4- Fixing Dimensions

When I first started creating the background on the contents page, I only made it come to the first border. I have since decided to extend my background to the edge of the page. I feel as though this looks better aesthetically since there is no longer a white border surrounding the whole page. I have been emailing the chef and planning a way to conduct the interview as well as photograph the food. However, he has expressed it is a very busy time not only at the restaurant but, also in his personal life.

Production 3- Creating the Map

I am aware all aspects of this project have to be my own however, I did not consider creating an accurate map for the contents page. On my story board I traced a picture of Thailand onto the paper. I have essentially done the same thing only digitally using Adobe Illustrator. I placed an image of Thailand on the first layer and locked it. I then created a second layer on top of the first. Using the Pencil Tool I created an outline of Thailand. Now I am going to fill in the outline with color and import it into Adobe InDesign. The map will be centered on the contents page.
